I Got Chills, They’re Multiplyin’

I LOVE OLD-TIMERS’ DAY.

I wasn’t even there and I was starstruck.

Seeing guys like Charlie Hayes, Chad Curtis, Doc Gooden, Mike Mussina, and especially
Don Zimmer had me covered in goosebumps. I wanted to cry when I heard
the applause that Zim got. I love that little old man. Watching
them as Old Timers made me feel old – I grew up watching those guys… It’s crazy to think that it was so long ago that they were the ones I rooted for.

I
know it was mentioned about 2,475 times, but I’ll reiterate: the
Yankees are the only team that could ever do something this great, and
it’s beyond incredible. I think that us Yankee fans are really
appreciative of that. There is really no way you could ever top the
Yankees’ storied history. It’s impossible, and I like it that way. I’m
sure most of you fellow fans out there agree with me, whether you like the Yankees or not.

As for the game, I’m very glad that Joba stayed in for 6.2 and only gave up the one run. At least it was just one mistake rather than many. Maybe he’s finally coming out of his home “slump”, so to speak? And I LOVE that A-Rod and Tex were on the same page today. It’s so much better when they’re working together than separately to win a ballgame. Next come the O’s, and hopefully another 3-game sweep! Break out the brooms, ’cause it’s cleanup time in the AL East, baby!!!

Final thoughts: I hate missing games because of work. The encores are definitely not as fun.  And the irony is, I’m missing the New York Yankees because of another group of Yankees: the Staten Island Yankees, that is. =) And speaking of work, here’s a picture I took while on my way home (with a little help from picnik; inspired by f4td’s graphics). Don’t worry, I was at a red light. 😉

Two-Fer

I’d just like to point out the contrasts between today’s and yesterday’s games:

1. Pitching: Yesterday, AJ definitely struggled. I’m glad he didn’t BS after the game like Joba does when he has a shaky outing. (i.e. Joba, after getting yet another no-decision after giving up too many runs: “I felt really good. / I had some great pitches.” and AJ, after struggling: “Five walks is terrible, I definitely had to grind it out there. Hughes was ridiculous.” At least he admitted he made mistakes and acknowledges the teammates that back him up. Hopefully he was just shaking off the 9-day vacation rust.  CC today was better than usual. Not stellar, but still really effective. Scoreless through seven is definitely not too shabby.

2. Offense: Tex was HUGE yesterday. You could tell in his face as soon as the ball hit the bat that he was pumped. I’d just like to point out how he and A-Rod switched roles since yesterday. First Tex gets the big spot and Alex ain’t so hot, then today A-Rod ended up breaking Verlander’s ice and Tex was “elsewhere” for lack of a better term.
Speaking of Justin Verlander, I hate him.
Okay, I don’t hate him. I just dislike him greatly.
Okay, that’s unfair. He’s a crazy-good pitcher. Maybe that’s why I can’t stand him. Oh well.

Bottom line is that we have 2 wins right off the bat (pun maybe intended…) and therefore a good start to the second half.

And I don’t know about you all out there, but I’m sure looking forward to Old Timers’ Day tomorrow. =) “MOOOOOOOOOOSE!”
