ALCS Game 3: Oh, HELL No!

Now Playing: Lights [ Journey ]
‘So you think you’re lonely, well my friend I’m lonely too
I want to get back to my city by the bay…’ ;)

     -_-”

Okay, maybe not by the bay since ‘bay’ may be related to California… but you get the idea.

Today was obviously not a very good display of what our boys are capable of, to say the very least. It definitely could have been prevented through many various means.

I’m gonna keep this short and sweet, ’cause I’m not really in the mood to get into detail. Let’s just say Andy Pettitte should’ve gotten more run support, and Joe Girardi just plain screwed himself over, i.e. Mariano Rivera and David Robertson.

At least CC Sabathia is on the mound tomorrow; the stopper, the drain, the knight in shining armor, etc. Let’s just hope the bats come alive and get something done. Here’s looking at you, Mark Teixeira, Nick Swisher, and Melky Cabrera[cough]

Yes, folks, tomorrow is another day! We have to forget about this loss and focus on the important things in life at the moment: TPPT™ & GoodKarma™. They will avenge us, this I promise you! Mark my words, [as I said on Twitter and shall now repeat] CC will make a$sponies of those Halos tomorrow! [maniacal laugh] Choke a rally monkey & let the good vibes take over! WOOOOO!!!!!

B-Team Ball Busting

Yes, that title has a couple of meanings.

Last night’s game didn’t really bring high expectations in Yankees Universe. Having the spring-training status squad on the field was merely a way to give those [hopefully sobering] vets a break after the previous night’s champagne showers and likely partying. Luckily for us, it worked out pretty damn well.

boxscore0928.pngcano03b.pngYes, that is indeed last night’s lineup and box score. Sure, they played the Royals, one of the worst teams in the majors, but they still knocked them for 8 runs: 4 courtesy of a Granny by Robbie, 2 courtesy of Catwoman, and 2 more with thanks to Hinkse and Shelley. Frankie went 2-4 in the effort as well. All in all, it was not a disappointing day for us fans.

As I said in the opening line, the title of this entry has a couple of meanings, one of course being the offense that came out of the AAAA Swankees on the field. The other meaning is more comedic. I had said Catwoman [aka Ramiro Pe

ña] had himself a couple of RBIs last night. One of those RBI came via his first Major League homer. He rounded the bases in a euphoric state, only to come back to the dugout and have everybody… ignore him? Alex Rodriguez engaged everybody in giving Pe

ña the silent treatment when he came back to the dugout. That had to be one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Particularly JoPo’s face as he and his teammates mobbed Pe

ña after going a good 5 seconds without saying a word. The camaraderie of this team is astounding. They really enjoy each other and get along so well. They’re like carefree teenagers sometimes. It’s awesome. To me, this team is running a close second behind 1998 – not necessarily because of how good they are, but because of the kind of team they are as a whole.

The other story of the night was Chad Gaudin. He pitched particularly well for getting a spot start since AJ went out to Oklahoma to be with his dad, who had triple bypass surgery. He’s doing okay and AJ should be back to start the game tonight. But, back to Chadski. he went a strong 6-and-two-thirds and only gave up two earned. He got his first win as a starter in pinstripes. Like Joe Girardi said in his postgame press conference, Chad has given him and the rest of the management a lot to think about regarding a postseason roster spot. Personally, I think he’d do a good job no matter where they put him. Fourth starter, long man out of the ‘pen, whatever, I think he’ll prove to be a good addition to the postseason.

pena01b.pngSo it was obviously a good win, and quite the spectacle to be seen. We’ll have to see what the lineup looks like tonight. Some of the vets are supposed to be returning and apparently Robbie and Melky will be getting the night off. Will the womens take that into consideration and still give them a good time? Stay tuned to find out…!

Beautiful Day For Baseball

And a trip to the Bronx! =D

That’s right, I made my first trip to the grand new Stadium on 161st St. and River Ave, and let me tell you, it was completely, COMPLETELY worth it.

I was hoping that the Yankees would hold off being swept by the Orioles because I rarely ever go to games, and I like to see wins when I go. It seems that they were in the generous mood because they did win, by a landslide.

girardi01b.pngCC had an overall great outing, except for giving up those two runs in the 2nd and one in the 4th – partially thanks to J-Dames thinking there were three outs when there were only two in the fourth inning. *sigh* Pon atención, por favor, J-Dames!

The fifth inning was where things really got going. As I went to meet some friends from Twitter, both Joe Girardi and Alex Rodriguez got tossed from the game. We missed it on the field, but we were watching it on the TV screens near the concession stands. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Girardi that mad before. It was pretty intense. I thought punches would be thrown… but that would’ve been bad. Apparently the ejections were over balls and strikes, and apparently Marty Foster is in need of some binoculars or some other sort of eye aid.

But, in true New York Yankee fashion, that fire that was lit under their as$es stayed lit. They kept it rolling in the 6th inning, with 2 RBIs from Melky putting the Yanks up 5-3. Then they poured the cement on the coffin in the 8th, scoring 8 runs thanks to pretty much everybody – especially Hit-deki & Melky. Tex and BG had themselves a couple of RBIs in the 8th as well. Offensive production = check.

matsui04b.pngBack to CC. He went seven, giving up 3 runs, 5 hits, 4 walks, and only striking out 1 batter. An odd outing for CC, no doubt about it, but he still managed to get the win. Kudos to the offense once again for backing his big butt up.

As for my own experience at the Stadium, I was pretty overwhelmed. The place is ginormous, but incredibly gorgeous. I wanna live there, or at least get a job as a ball girl. That would be pretty ideal. Could somebody hook me up with that? And maybe a place to live that’s a tad closer than where I am now? Kay, thanks.

Yes, I purposely skipped posting anything about the previous two games because, well, they were pretty disgusting/infuriating/annoying/stressful… and who likes posting about losses? I sure don’t. Good thing I waited ’til today. I brought TPPT™ with me to the Stadium! =D

Tomorrow, in come the Halos. I hate the Halos. They are the bane of my existence. Hopefully the offense didn’t dry up today… ’cause that would not be ideal. Maybe/hopefully the essence of TPPT™ will still be there! [crosses fingers and knocks on wood] A win against this team is a must, especially at home. We’ll see what happens.

Don’tcha Know?

Just when it seemed we were gonna get the raw end of the deal, an unlikely hero emerged… Only one man dared to challenge [the White Sox] power… HERCULES ROBBIE.

cano02b.png
Robinson effin’ Cano, don’tcha know? Well, I don’t think any of Yankees Universe did at the time he stepped up to the plate with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th. A simple base hit would have done the trick, but he did better by crushing his first ever walk off home run to make the final score 5-2. He still managed to leave 4 runners in scoring position before his last at-bat. This may not completely redeem him, but it did for tonight at least.

As for CC Sabathia, he beasted it, as usual. He went 7 strong only allowing the two lone Chicago runs and striking out 10. It’s too bad he didn’t get the decision. But thankfully he was the stopper, as he has been lately.

So, why did I allude to the idea that the Yankees would get the “raw end of the deal”? Well, because Joe Girardi (in his infinite wisdom) decided on Hughes for the 8th, Rivera for the 9th, and Brian Bruney for the 10th. Why he couldn’t extend Hughes or Rivera is beyond me… Bruney is just not trustworthy at this point. He gets through by the skin of his teeth half the time, and it’s scary. He was pretty good tonight, which was nice.

Mark Buerhle continued his struggle against the Yankees, allowing a leadoff home run from Deej and another solo pop from J-Dames in the 3rd. The Sox bullpen was pretty good after those 2 runs though. Three scoreless innings after Buerhle left the game. Good thing Williams wasn’t so impenetrable.

Bottom line: Yankees win and I [along with many others, I'm sure] can rest easy. They escaped the [heavy] rain and a loss in style. Let’s see if the rain is kind enough to hold up for enough of tomorrow’s game. I loathe rain delays. I also loathe how rainy this entire year has been. Just stop already, sheesh. Until tomorrow, bloggers and bloggerettes!

First Place, Table For One

ALEast721.png

It’s a beautiful thing, isn’t it? =D

Tonight marks the first time since June 8 that the Yankees have had sole possession of first place in the AL East. P-A-R-T, Y? BECAUSE I GOTTA !

The offense actually made a cameo appearance tonight, which was good to see. And the fact that most of the runs came thanks to the Yankees playing a little small ball was nice too. As Girardi and others say, the home runs aren’t always going to be there.

Mitre was pretty good considering it was his first start as a Yankee. Yes, I might have gotten annoyed when he let the hit parade go on in the first inning, but I got over it. The defense was definitely something to consider as well. Cano did an awesome job with both the glove and the bat tonight. And for those of you who doubted Cody Ransom… well I’ll let tonight’s game finish my thought. Hopefully he keeps it up when his times come to contribute to the team.

Tonight’s game is also the fifth win in a row out of the break. That certainly makes me happy. I know I’ll be breaking my lucky broom out looking for the sweep. That would be sweeeeet.

And I may have a doubleheader at work tomorrow (??) but I think the good mood I’m in now will carry. Well, hopefully it will…

I’m also confident that AJ will kick some major boo-tay tomorrow afternoon. I mean after all, Phil Hughes would take him as a tag team partner in a wrestling match. Why? ‘Cause he’s got the game face. =) If there’s one thing games broadcasted on My9 are good for, it’s the post-game interviews. They’re semi-entertaining. And by semi- I mean not really.

Peace out blog scouts!
