B-Team Ball Busting
Yes, that title has a couple of meanings.
Last night’s game didn’t really bring high expectations in Yankees Universe. Having the spring-training status squad on the field was merely a way to give those [hopefully sobering] vets a break after the previous night’s champagne showers and likely partying. Luckily for us, it worked out pretty damn well.

Yes, that is indeed last night’s lineup and box score. Sure, they played the Royals, one of the worst teams in the majors, but they still knocked them for 8 runs: 4 courtesy of a Granny by Robbie, 2 courtesy of Catwoman, and 2 more with thanks to Hinkse and Shelley. Frankie went 2-4 in the effort as well. All in all, it was not a disappointing day for us fans.
ña] had himself a couple of RBIs last night. One of those RBI came via his first Major League homer. He rounded the bases in a euphoric state, only to come back to the dugout and have everybody… ignore him? Alex Rodriguez engaged everybody in giving Pe
ña the silent treatment when he came back to the dugout. That had to be one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Particularly JoPo’s face as he and his teammates mobbed Pe
ña after going a good 5 seconds without saying a word. The camaraderie of this team is astounding. They really enjoy each other and get along so well. They’re like carefree teenagers sometimes. It’s awesome. To me, this team is running a close second behind 1998 – not necessarily because of how good they are, but because of the kind of team they are as a whole.
The other story of the night was Chad Gaudin. He pitched particularly well for getting a spot start since AJ went out to Oklahoma to be with his dad, who had triple bypass surgery. He’s doing okay and AJ should be back to start the game tonight. But, back to Chadski. he went a strong 6-and-two-thirds and only gave up two earned. He got his first win as a starter in pinstripes. Like Joe Girardi said in his postgame press conference, Chad has given him and the rest of the management a lot to think about regarding a postseason roster spot. Personally, I think he’d do a good job no matter where they put him. Fourth starter, long man out of the ‘pen, whatever, I think he’ll prove to be a good addition to the postseason.
So it was obviously a good win, and quite the spectacle to be seen. We’ll have to see what the lineup looks like tonight. Some of the vets are supposed to be returning and apparently Robbie and Melky will be getting the night off. Will the womens take that into consideration and still give them a good time? Stay tuned to find out…!
Siyonara kids!
Take Me Home-r Tonight
The home run is a wonderful thing, let me tell you. Especially when the guy who’s supposed to be an ace on the mound is anything but. AJ Burnett was just straight up not good tonight. Five-and-a-third with 11 hits and 6 earned runs. Ouchies.
Lucky for him the offense was there to bail his tushie out. Robbie connected for his 22nd of the year in the 2nd inning. The 6th run AJ gave up put the O’s up 6-5 in the bottom of the 5th, but A-Rod tied it with an RBI single on the top of the 6th. Next inning, Robbie hits a lead-off double and Swish brings both Robbie and himself in with a 2-run shot. Apparently he likes Camden Yards. That’s just a rumor though… Next batter: Eric Hinske: solo shot – the most useful thing he’s done in a while. Go Hinsk-man!
Jorge Posada had himself a day too. After having a couple of bouts where his first-grade math escaped him, he hit two homers, one solo and one two-fer. Maybe he should pay less attention more often if those are the results. I’m just sayin’… It was sure funny to watch El Capitano & Co laugh at him. I love this team.
I’m keeping this one short tonight because I need to go to bed earlier than usual. First day of classes tomorrow as a sophomore in college for me. Ugh. Three months of summer is definitely not a good thing when you need to transition back to normal-people hours. Fail.
Tomorrow: Big Dawg Sabathia takes the mound. Anyone else ready for another sweep? I think so. =)

Dayum. What a game, huh?
And the offense? Well that was certainly a sight too. I certainly wasn’t expecting a shutout from Contreras, but I liked how things turned out. Everybody except Hinske [who pinch hit for Matsui] scored a run. A-Rod had two, including his 23rd homer of the season. Jeter’s still closing in on Gehrig – he had 3 hits today. Excuse me while I put on my shocked face. Last night’s hero had 3 hits and an awesome play in the field – and NO runners left in scoring position! =O JHJ was the difference-maker, however – his double gave the Yankees all the runs they really needed. The whole original offensive lineup contributed today. That’s something any baseball fan in general likes to see.
I don’t know what else could be said. It was nearly perfect. A 10-0 Yankees win. One-hit shutout. I’m actually having a hard time thinking of something to say matter-of-factly to put this win in perspective. The Power of Positive Thinking™ has avenged itself today, once again! =D
Side note: I have tickets for September 13 in my possession. Fifteen days and counting. I AM SO EXCITED.
As for tomorrow, I’m feeling a sweep in the air. Brooms out, everybody!
Peace out blog scouts!
Will the Real New York Yankees Please Stand Up?
…’cause the ones in Chicago are just imitating.
In all seriousness, what the hell goes on? What happened to the “11-2 since the All-Star break” Yankees team that flew into Chicago with high hopes? Well, they have certainly evacuated the area. Thankfully I’ve been too distracted the past couple of days to really get angry about this.
This is Anaheim all over again. Murphy’s Law has the Yankees in a full nelson. What I really don’t understand is how it went so sour so fast.
And what was this I heard about Ransom playing first? I like the guy a lot, I really do, but for real? What the hell was Shelley Duncan called up for? To make the team better looking? Why on earth did you trade for Jerry Hairston, then? And does the name “Hinske” ring any bells? You have 18964103245 utility men and you chose him? This certainly boggled my mind, as you can tell.
And AJ… oh brother. I can’t say anything bad about him despite the game. He was doing so well lately, a bump had to come and screw him up. HAD TO. I feel bad for the guy. Ugh. I’m so impatient when it comes to situations like this. I want to know what the hell is going on and why, darnit!
Lastly, our nice semi-comfortable lead in a AL East has gone poof. I’m not even going to get into how perturbed that makes me.
Another lastly, Mark Buerhle tomorrow? Really now? I think it’s all Michael Kay’s fault. If he didn’t screw up that friggin’ song, then we wouldn’t be in this situation. And here I always figured Jim Croce to be the forgiving kind… =/
I’m ending this entry before I rip someone’s face off. Happy trails.
Duking It Out
Third pitchers’ duel in a row. What is with this? Where
are the bats at?!
Not that I’m complaining… the Yankees did win, after all.
But still, I want an all-out beat down!
Alright, alright. I’ll settle down for now. I’ll focus on the fact that
yesterday’s game was the fourth win in a row out of the break for the Yanks.
Good stuff no matter how it gets done.
Positive Thinking: Andy pitched really well. Aside from his first inning
mistake to Markakis, he did a good job. Coke & Co. were there to mop up the
potential mess he left for them, but he was still good considering how mediocre
he had been at home all season. Spectacular plays by Tex + Molina and Coke +
Molina. I’m also glad that the offensive heroes of today’s game were more on
the unlikely side. Hinske is new and needs to establish himself as a reliable
utility guy. And I like Matsui for what he is. I’m glad he got the pie in the
face. It was comical as well as refreshing.
Not-So-Positive Thinking: I woke up at 7:30am to get ready for work – an
11am game in St. George. In the rain. Lovely.
Positive Out of the Not-So-Positive: I’ll be able to watch tonight’s
game live! If the rain holds up, that is. =| Okay, so much for more positive.
Until next time, fellow bloggers!
